SJTIT is a private, non-sectarian institution founded in 1977, offering college and senior/high school programs with a unique focus on technology, vocational training, and media operations.

St. Jude Thaddeus Institute of Technology, located along Borromeo Street in Surigao City, began as St. Jude Technical School in June 1977 and gained college status in September 1980. Over the years, it expanded from one-year technical courses like Instrumentation Technician and Refrigeration to two-year vocational programs, and eventually to bachelor's degrees in fields such as Criminology, Customs Administration, Business Administration, Secondary and Elementary Education, Broadcasting, and Computer Science. The institute also partners closely with public and private stakeholders to deliver responsive education, uphold a drug- and fraternity-free academic environment, and foster global competencies through community outreach and modern facilities. Notably, SJTIT operates its own “Infinite Radio” FM network and TV station, serving as laboratory platforms for its broadcasting and technical students while enhancing practical learning.
